Understanding Our Carbon Footprint

At Promag, sustainability lies at the heart of everything we do. As part of our commitment to environmental responsibility, we partnered with CarbonZero to conduct a comprehensive Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory for 2023. This initiative reflects our dedication to transparency, accountability, and innovation in reducing our carbon footprint.
Emissions Report

A Data-Driven Sustainability Journey

Promag’s 2023 GHG Inventory was meticulously measured using globally recognized GHG Protocol Standards. With total emissions amounting to 8,050.77 metric tons CO₂e, the report provides insights into direct, indirect, and value chain emissions (Scopes 1, 2, and 3). These findings lay the foundation for achieving our ambitious goal of reducing emissions by 45% by 2030.

2023 GHG Emissions Snapshot

Promag’s total emissions for 2023 are broken down into the following categories:

  • Scope 3: Value Chain Emissions7,870.55 metric tons CO₂e (97.76% of total)The largest contributor to our emissions, covering purchased goods, transportation, and end-of-life product treatment.
  • Scope 1: Direct Emissions169.76 metric tons CO₂e (2.11% of total)
Emissions generated from Promag-owned operations, such as natural gas for facility heating and company vehicles.
  • Scope 2: Indirect Energy Emissions10.46 metric tons CO₂e (0.13% of total)
Emissions from purchased electricity. Notably, Montréal’s reliance on hydroelectric power significantly reduces its emissions.

Where Do Our Emissions Come From?

  1. Scope 1 (Direct Emissions):
    • Emissions from facility heating and company vehicles.
    • Action: Transitioning to renewable energy sources to further reduce these emissions.
  2. Scope 2 (Indirect Energy Emissions):
    • Emissions from purchased electricity, influenced by the carbon intensity of local grids. Montréal benefits from hydroelectric power.
  3. Scope 3 (Value Chain Emissions):
    • Representing the majority of emissions, Scope 3 includes:
      • Purchased Goods & Services (92% of Scope 3): Mainly corrugated cardboard.
      • Transportation: Both upstream (suppliers) and downstream (delivery to clients).
      • Waste Management: Recycling and landfill contributions.
      • End-of-Life Product Treatment: Impacts from recycling materials sold.
